Jessica Chastain, Kirsten Dunst, Brie Larson, Eddie Aikau and Nainao Thompson to Receive Awards During Event, June 12th – 16th

Wailea, HI (June 5, 2013) – Entering its much anticipated fourteenth year of cinema-under-the-stars, the 2013 Maui Film Festival announced its line up of honorees, screenings and special events taking place June 12-16, 2013 in Wailea.  Taking place at the Celestial Cinema located at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course, the Castle Theater at the state-of-the-art Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, the Seaside Cinema located between the Four Seasons Maui and the Grand Wailea, the festival will offer a full schedule of screenings and special events throughout the Wailea Resort.  Award ceremonies throughout the festival will honor Jessica Chastain, Kirsten Dunst, Brie Larson, Eddie Aikau and Nainao Thompson.

In addition to star-studded ceremonies, the schedule is packed with screenings of life-affirming films, inspiring filmmakers, and fabulous events that will highlight the culture, food, and beauty of Maui.  Tickets and passes for the festival are on-sale now.

"After fourteen years of being the Curator of the Maui Film Festival, there has not been a schedule I'm more proud of,” said Festival Director Barry Rivers.  “This year’s festival aims to have a program that intersects smart and heart."

Eddie Aikau and Nainoa Thompson Honored with Visionary Awards
Wednesday, June 12th at 8:00 PM
Eddie Aikau (represented by family members) and Nainoa Thompson will be presented with the Visionary Award for living lives beyond limits, outside of fear.  Following the presentation will be the Opening Night screening of Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau   

Kirsten Dunst Honored with the Pathfinder Award
Friday, June 14th at 8:00 PM
Kirsten Dunst will be presented with the Pathfinder Award, which honors an actor, whose eclectic choices and charismatic performances encourage us all to expand our definition of what it means to be human.

Jessica Chastain Honored with the Nova Award
Saturday, June 15th at 8:00 PM
Jessica Chastain will be presented with the Nova Award, which honors a film artist whose stunningly original and seamless performances consistently infuse each character they play with unique insight and wisdom.  

Brie Larson Honored with the Rising Star Award
Sunday, June 16th at 8:00 PM
Brie Larson will be presented with the Rising Star Award, which honors a young film artist for daring to dream big dreams and then delivering brilliant performances when opportunity knocks.
