Aaron Sorkin to receive 2010 Final Draft, Inc. Hall of Fame Award

Aaron Sorkin, influential and iconic screenwriter of A Few Good Men, The West Wing, and the upcoming The Social Network (Oct. 1), will receive the 2010 Final Draft, Inc. Hall of Fame Award on Oct. 14 in Beverly Hills. Mr. Sorkin also graces the cover of the Sept./Oct. 2010 issue of Script.

Final Draft, Inc., publisher of Final Draft®, the #1–selling scriptwriting software and Script magazine, will be hosting its annual corporate event at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, CA where Mr. Sorkin will be honored as the sixth annual Hall of Fame Award recipient. This award is given by Final Draft, Inc. to an entertainment industry luminary who fosters the art of scriptwriting and inspires the creative process.

Hall of Fame.”

Final Draft, Inc. will also honor the top–three winners from the 11th annual Big Break International Screenwriting Contest. The winners are flown in for the event where the first, second and third–place winners will be revealed for the first time.

The Big Break Contest supports emerging creative talent and reinforces the Final Draft, Inc. mission to advance and provide industry access to writers. The Big Break Contest
rewards screenwriters with over $30,000 in cash and prizes plus A–list executive meetings. Past winners and finalists have had their screenplays optioned and produced and have secured high–profile representation as well as lucrative writing deals.
“Our contest provides a huge opportunity for up–and–coming writers to showcase their talent. We’re happy to be able to facilitate their endeavors,” states Final Draft, Inc. Vice President of Events and Publications, Shelly Mellott.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 14th at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, CA from 7:00–10:00 p.m. In attendance will be A–list writers, reputable industry executives, and entertainment industry business owners.

About Aaron Sorkin:

Aaron Sorkin graduated from Syracuse University with a B.F.A. in Theatre in 1983. He made his Broadway playwriting debut at the age of 28 with the military courtroom drama, A Few Good Men, for which he received the John Gassner Award as Outstanding New American Playwright. The following year saw his off–Broadway play, Making Movies, and in 2007 he returned to Broadway with The Farnsworth Invention, directed by Des McAnuff.

His film adaptation of A Few Good Men was nominated for four Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, and five Golden Globes, including Best Screenplay. He followed this success with the screenplays for Malice, starring Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman, and The American President, starring Michael Douglas and Annette Bening. Mr. Sorkin produced and wrote the television series Sports Night for ABC for two years, winning the Humanitas Prize and the Television Critics Association Award. He spent the next four years writing and producing the NBC series The West Wing, winning the Emmy® Award for Outstanding Drama Series all four years. For his work on The West Wing, Mr. Sorkin also twice received the Peabody Award and the Humanitas Prize, and three Television Critics Association Awards. He also won a Golden Globe, a Writers Guild Award, and three Producers Guild Awards.

In 2006, Mr. Sorkin wrote and produced the NBC television series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He also wrote the 2007 film Charlie Wilson’s War, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julia Roberts. Mr. Sorkin’s latest film, The Social Network, is about the formation of Facebook. Opening on October 1, the film is directed by David Fincher and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake. He recently adapted Moneyball, directed by Bennett Miller and starring Brad Pitt, which is currently in production at Sony. Mr. Sorkin has acquired the rights to The Politician, the best–selling book by Andrew Young about the downfall of former Senator John Edwards. Mr. Sorkin will adapt the book and make his directorial debut with The Politician, which he will also produce.
