RACHEL McADAMS NAMED SHOWEST FEMALE STAR OF THE YEAR

McADAMS TO STAR IN NEW LINE CINEMA’S “THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE” & WARNER BROS. PICTURES’ AND VILLAGE ROADSHOW PICTURES’ “SHERLOCK HOLMES”

Rachel McAdams was presented with the ShoWest 2009 Female Star of the Year Award at ShoWest’s Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 2, at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
“Since capturing the attention of Hollywood with her breakout role in ‘Mean Girls,’ Rachel McAdams has continued to impress audiences with her versatility,” noted Mitch Neuhauser.  “From the satirical humor of that film, to the romance of ‘The Notebook,’ to the suspense of ‘Red Eye,’ to the outrageous comedy of ’Wedding Crashers,’ McAdams has proven that she has the natural ability and depth to take on roles of all dimensions and that she is a true force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.  McAdams brings a true sense of grace and beauty to each of her roles and we could not be more honored to present her with the 2009 ShoWest Female Star of the Year Award.”

McAdams can next be seen in the Universal Pictures thriller “State of Play,” alongside Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck and Helen Mirren.  The film opens on April 17.

This summer, McAdams stars opposite Eric Bana in New Line Cinema’s romantic drama “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” based on the best-selling novel.  In the film, opening on August 14, McAdams plays a young heiress named Clare who falls in love with a Chicago librarian (Bana) who has a genetic anomaly that causes him, unwillingly, to travel through time, forcing them apart for long periods.

McAdams can also be seen in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ “Sherlock Holmes,” releasing Christmas Day 2009.  Starring opposite Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Watson, McAdams portrays Irene Adler, who has a tempestuous relationship with the detective. “Sherlock Holmes” also stars Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly and was directed by Guy Ritchie.

In 2004, this talented actress earned praise from both critics and audiences when she starred in very different back-to-back hits: “Mean Girls,” written by Tina Fey, and “The Notebook,” opposite Ryan Gosling, James Garner, James Marsden and Gena Rowlands.  She went on to star in the smash hit comedy “Wedding Crashers,” the thriller “Red Eye,” the holiday drama “The Family Stone,” and the 1940s-set independent film “Married Life.”  She most recently starred opposite Tim Robbins in “The Lucky Ones.”
