ASA BUTTERFIELD TO RECEIVE “CINEMACON® RISING STAR OF 2013 AWARD”

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE “ENDER’S GAME” ON NOVEMBER 1, 2013

WASHINGTON D.C. (March 18, 2013) – Asa Butterfield will receive the “CinemaCon® Rising Star of 2013 Award” at this year’s CinemaCon, it was announced today by the convention’s Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the largest and most important convention for the motion picture theatre industry, will be held from April 15-18, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at which time more than 5,000 industry members will be gathering. Butterfield will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 18, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“With a stunning turn in the title role of ‘Hugo,’ Butterfield has already proven himself as one to watch in Hollywood,” noted Neuhauser. “In a short time, he has already endured himself to audiences and critics alike with his captivating on-screen performances, and I cannot think of a young actor more deserving to be this year’s CinemaCon Rising Star.”

Butterfield can be seen later this year in “Ender’s Game,” which is set to be released by Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE® company, on November 1, 2013. The epic adventure is based on the best-selling, award-winning novel, and stars Butterfield as Ender – a shy but gifted student who is selected by the government to be humanity’s next great hope.  Ender is sent to an elite military academy to train for the next alien invasion, where he rises to become an accomplished and compassionate leader of fellow soldiers, preparing for the epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and the safety of the human race. “Ender’s Game” also stars Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld and Viola Davis with Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford.

Butterfield first garnered critical acclaim for his starring role in “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” for which he received a nomination for “Most Promising Newcomer” from the British Independent Film Awards and “Young British Performer of the Year” from the London Critics Circle Film Awards. He can last be seen starring as the title role in Martin Scorsese's 3D adventure “Hugo,” which earned him a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Young Actor. His previous film credits include “Son of Rambow,” “The Wolfman” and “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.” His television credits include a recurring role on the BBC series “Merlin.”
